my favorite type of games are RPG Maker games. (if you don't know what that is, it's a type of game engine) specifically, japanese horror. courtesy of vgperson (a great translator by the way, check out her stuff), some of them have been translated and gained immense fame within the community.

notable titles:
Ib, The Witch's House, Mad Father
(you can find all of these translated & free on vgperson's website)

my most favorite RPG Maker game is End Roll. you can find out more by clicking the link but my reason for it holding this title is simply the game's RPG mechanics meshed in with an interesting story. that, and other horror-story-oriented games were very lacking in the mechanics department. also i love the characters and the art. i'm a sucker for good pixelated art.

a second contender that is honestly underrated even within the community is Standstill Girl. with mechanics differing a little from the typical RPG Maker, i thought this game was a breath of fresh air. don't forget the art! the story and characters aren't as in-depth as some others but i still enjoyed it myself, if you enjoy a little melancholy and vagueness.

Memories of Fear is a lesser known translation group that does its fair share of rpg maker games

you can also find translated games by tosiaki7 but i can't guarantee its the same level of quality ._.

i also like visual novels. if you don't know what that is...

some titles i've played are:

Fate/Stay Night
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia*
Doki Doki Literature Club
Saya no Uta
Katawa Shoujo

as of writing this i am currently playing Umineko no Naku Koro ni

titles i hope to play in the future:

Hashihime of the Old Book Town
Tsukihime
Kagetsu Tohya
Mahoutsukai no Yoru
